divergent is a beautiful story, where you have created a psychological category better than Freud. I recognize myself in the Divergent genre. I discovered that book in a supermarket shopping center in southern Milan. I was struck by the plot, also because I love the city of Chicago because modern architecture was born there by Frank Lloyd Wright
I have another consideration that I think is important that I don't know how much it was thought or said by others.-I don't understand why it is considered children's literature. I bought that book when I was 40 years old..it's a text that offers the strategy of not being fooled by the concept of "divide and conquer" but of thinking for yourself using the "divergent" method. It is a "regenerating" concept for those who have over 20 years old and educational for a 14 year old boy. :D
ahahah it's a mystery how he found such a beautiful book in such a horrible place. That day I felt the need to go to the crocery store but I didn't know why, I was looking for something to read on the internet but nothing gave me good ideas. Then there was a reflection of light on the cover that dazzled me and I saw the book. It practically fell into the cart.
Part of the reason why they’re a strong & relatable couple, neither sugarcoated each other’s feelings, they’re both honest with each other even though sometimes it’s difficult to do so given their situations. It makes them question about everything about themselves, each other, & their relationship. Truly, you’re a genius!👏👏👏👏
Thank you! I do like how straightforward they are with each other. Upon reflection I think the whole "I said 'I love you' and they didn't say it back" thing is more of a "fictional" conflict than a real-life one-- you see it all the time in TV and movies but I haven't actually had it happen (or heard of it happening) in the relationships around me. (Though I'm sure it does happen-- just not as much as Dawson's Creek led me to believe, maybe? Ha.) Anyway, I wouldn't trade Tobias's prickliness for the world, but I also wanted it to be grounded in something that felt real.
Well you did a phenomenal job with that, it’s because of how you’ve written their dynamic, helped me see the depiction of a realistic couple. I’ve grew up watching Disney & twilight, & I’m not ashamed that I still love ‘em😊
But how you created Tris & Tobias as individuals as well as a couple made me see a whole new perspective of what real life couples are, except the dystopian background of course😂
FourTris will 4eva be one of my favorite YA couples cuz they’re passionate, grounded, supportive, & BAD-ASS!😎
The general point I think in this deleted scene is how someone deals with trauma & how it’s handled in a relationship whether it be friendships, Romance, or familial. Both Tris & Tobias have dealt with trauma, but for Tris it’s really hard as she’s never experienced pain like this before. Plus, I think I see how hard it is for Tobias not to completely understand her struggles as though he’s too experienced pain, he’s never understood it like what Tris recently went through & he deals with it differently than her
There’s also the fact there’s a lot of Erudite in Tris as she’s very more logical in certain situations especially emotional ones in any relationship. Kinda reminds of Booth & Brennen’s relationship (from Bones) to with Booth being the more passionate & Brennan being the logical: two opposites that yet go exceedingly well together 🥰
Plus I could also understand Tris’s perspective in the conflict as well. As a strong woman you’ve been taught to build yourself up in a way that no one should ever hurt you especially in a world where anything or anyone can because of you being a woman
Tobias had experienced pain for most of his life mainly due to his family & it’s been hard for him to trust anyone to bare his secrets & vulnerability to in a society that makes you suppress them. Plus it also shows how strong Tobias & Tris’s dynamic is, I remember from a Q&A in one of the earlier editions of Insurgent you mentioned how reversed the gender norms in a relationship between Tris & Tobias. Normally it’s the woman who’s emotional & the male more logical in the relationship, so to see that kind of thing differ in their relationship is so real raw & refreshing cuz the woman would get emotional about her male partner for not feeling enough, but I see that through the male’s perspective in Tobias which makes his character all the more appealing 😏😘
Thank you so much Veronica, I enjoyed these deleted scenes so much!
I was shocked, moved, & amazed by these deleted scenes.
I know you thought that Tobias sounded like an a***hole for what he felt about Tris not being in love with him & lied to him about Will & I agree with you on your thoughts given what Tris had been through, but at the same time I can see from Tobias’s perspective because Tris had not experienced any pain till her time in Dauntless & the Erudite attack
This blessed me so much Veronica! Today i had the pleasure of finally flying into and out of O'Hare and it was a magical experience that your books; specifically Allegiant, enhanced so much, so it's a tremendous blessing that you sent this out today!!!
This was so refreshing to read! Made me realize how I've missed reading Divergent. The Divergent series will always have a special place in my heart! This world you created and its characters have always inspired me when everything else in my life went south. I wouldn't have grown into the same person without it. Thank you so much Veronica!
This actually made my whole week thank you so much<3
:)
Thank you Veronica!!! This brightened my day, i miss so much the Divergent era!!
It was a very special time!

I love that you found the book in a supermarket! Once I spotted it in a grocery store in Romania and that was a real career highlight.

You might be the only person ever to describe flying in and out of O'Hare as a "pleasure," but I'm glad it was a good experience!
This made my year lol
I find reading these cut Scrivener excerpts slightly freaky, as my kids are called Tris & Tobias.
